Thailand D1GP at Impact Speed Park: My First Drift Event Experience
This past weekend, I had the opportunity to cover the Thailand D1 Grand Prix (D1GP) at Impact Speed Park, and it was nothing short of incredible. It was my first time shooting a drift event, and even though it was my first time shooting drift, the whole experience blew me away. The noise, the tire smoke, the atmosphere, and the people.
A huge shout-out to Infinite Media and my good friend Oat for helping me secure a media pass. Having access to the pits and trackside areas gave me the chance to see what professional drifting in Thailand is really like, up close and personal.
What Is the D1 Grand Prix Thailand?
The D1 Grand Prix is one of the most respected drift competitions in the world. Drivers compete in tandem battles, where they’re judged on speed, angle, proximity, and style. It’s not just about who’s fastest, it’s about precision, control, and showmanship.
At Impact Speed Park, the track layout was tight and technical. Drivers had to throw their cars sideways at full throttle, just inches from the wall, transitioning perfectly between corners. The crowd could feel the intensity. Each run was a mix of skill, smoke, and pure spectacle.
The Cars and Drivers on Display
The paddock at the Thailand D1GP was packed with some seriously impressive builds. I spotted everything from Nissan S-chassis with 2JZ swaps, RB-powered Skylines and V8 monsters.
Each car had its own character, different liveries, setups, and powertrains but all shared one thing in common: they were purpose-built drift machines. Between battles, crews were constantly working on tire changes, alignment tweaks, and fine-tuning for the next run.
The drivers themselves were super approachable. Even though they were competing at a professional level, everyone in the paddock seemed genuinely supportive of each other. That’s one of the things that really stood out, the drifting community in Thailand is passionate, friendly, and deeply connected.
My First Time Shooting a Drift Event
As a photographer, this was my first real drift photography experience, and let me tell you, it’s a whole new challenge. The cars move fast, the smoke is unpredictable, and getting sharp, well-timed shots takes a lot of trial and error.
Some of my photos could definitely be better, but honestly, I’m just proud of diving into something new. Every lap was a chance to learn, adjusting focus, tracking the cars, and trying to anticipate the perfect drift angle. It’s fast-paced, intense, and ridiculously fun.
Standing trackside, hearing the turbos spool and feeling the vibration of the engines through the ground, it’s an experience you can’t replicate. Even with a camera in hand, I had to stop sometimes just to take it all in.
The Energy of Impact Speed Park
Impact Speed Park was the perfect venue for this event. The setup allowed fans to get close to the action, and the organizers did an amazing job keeping everything smooth and safe. Between runs, there were food stalls, merch booths, and even opportunities to meet the drivers, which made it feel like more than just a competition. It was a celebration of Thai car culture and motorsport passion.
Final Thoughts
I can’t thank Infinite Media and Oat enough for making this happen. Being part of the Thailand D1GP 2025 at Impact Speed Park was one of the most exciting experiences I’ve had behind the camera so far.
Even if my drift photos aren’t perfect yet, the adrenaline, the community, and the access made it all worth it. If you’re into cars, photography, or just want to experience something raw and real. Go to a drift event. You’ll leave with tire smoke in your hair, a camera full of shots, and a smile that lasts for days.
